National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

The Royal Life Saving Society UK's (RLSS UK) NPLQ is the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the UK and Ireland and is also internationally recognised. Over 40,000 lifeguards qualify with the RLSS UK pool lifeguard course every year, and there are currently more than 75,000 lifeguards qualified in the NPLQ.

Who is the course for?

Anyone who would like to lifeguard a swimming pool must hold a lifeguard qualification.

Every candidate attending a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course must be 16-years-old or above at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

Jump/dive into deep water
Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back
In deep water, tread water for 30 seconds
Surface dive to the floor of the pool
Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits

Course Content:

The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR. The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool.

Training and assessment for the NPLQ are in three sections, and candidates must successfully pass all to attain the qualification.

To run this course we will need access to a training room and use of a swimming pool.

Once completed lifeguards will need to attend monthly training sessions which cover the programme contents and ensure that all lifeguards are up to date with any new changes and fully competent within their role.

What does this course Cost?

This six day course can be run at your own business premises. All that is required is a room, with enough space, and use of a swimming pool.

The maximum number of candidates on each course is 12 at a cost of £2,750 which includes all tuition, materials and certificates.

We can also add extra qualifications onto this (for example First Aid at Work, Automated External Defibrillator, Management of Life threatening Bleeds, Anaphylaxis etc) in order to get you the best trained lifeguards for your business.
